Silvina Ocampo

(1903 - 1993)

In addition to being a poet and short-story writer, Silvina Ocampo was a visual artist who studied painting in Paris with Giorgio de Chirico and Fernand Léger. She soon grew dissatisfied with her art and, upon returning to her native Buenos Aires in 1933, turned her focus back to her writing. Her first book of stories, Forgotten Journey, was published in 1937.
