Paul Zweig

(1935 - 1984)

Memoirist, poet, and critic, Paul Zweig for many years taught comparative literature at Queens College. His brilliant study of Walt Whitman—Walt Whitman: The Making of the Poet—remains one of the finest books on the subject. Zweig died of lymphatic cancer in 1984 at the age of forty-nine, and his memoir on his life and final years, Departures, was published two years later.
