Stone mason LeRoy Pollock.

LeRoy Pollock

(1876 - 1933)

When Jackson Pollock was born in Cody, Wyoming, in 1912, his father, LeRoy, listed his occupation on his son’s birth certificate as “stone mason and cement work.” As a teenager, Jackson was a student at the Los Angeles Manual Arts High School, where he decided he wanted to be “an Artist of some kind.” He then began to work for the WPA in 1935, had his first one-man show in 1943, and began painting with his drip technique in 1947.
