Sangyé Gyatso

(1653 - 1705)

A disciple to the fifth Dalai Lama, Sangyé Gyatso took over as temporary regent of Tibet in 1679 at age twenty-six. He completed his exhaustive survey of Tibetan medicine, The Mirror of Beryl, two years before his death in 1705, tracing the discipline back to traditional origins in China, India, and Central Asia.
