Aizawa Seishisai

Aizawa Seishisai was a Confucian philosopher who warned of the threat posed to Japanese beliefs by Western influences. His writings on the menace represented by foreign merchants became an essential part of Japanese nationalism. “The predators have a firm, fixed objective and steadfastly try to achieve it,” he wrote.
