Soranus

(c. 150 - c. 200)

A Greek gynecologist and pediatrician ascribed to the Methodist school of medicine, Soranus rejected humoral theory and held that illness was caused by problems with “internal pores.” His writings on contraceptive measures, podalic child delivery, and hygiene served as the basis for women’s medicine for nearly one thousand years.
