Gianfrancesco Straparola

(c. 1480 - c. 1557)

Gianfrancesco Straparola’s book The Nights of Straparola, containing seventy-five stories, served as inspiration for, among others, William Shakespeare and Molière. It introduced into European literature folktales such as “The Puss in Boots” and “Beauty and the Beast.”
