Jack Thayer

(1894 - 1945)

A passenger on the Titanic, Jack Thayer was seventeen at the time of the disaster and managed to survive. He reunited with his mother on the rescue ship Carpathia, and subsequently graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and went into banking. In 1940, Thayer published his account of the sinking, The Sinking of the S.S. Titanic. Following the death of his son in World War II, he fell into depression and committed suicide in 1945.
