Jillian Weise

Poet and playwright Jillian Weise teaches at Clemson University. “Because my daily routine depends on an electrically charged knee—which sometimes misfires, runs out of power, and dies—I identify as a cyborg,” she wrote in a 2012 essay. “This word is preferable to the other words I have been prescribed such as patient, handicapped, physically challenged, or even person with a disability.”
