Samar Yazbek

Samar Yazbek worked as a journalist in Syria before publishing A Woman in the Crossfire, an account of the Syrian revolution. After being captured and labeled a traitor by the regime of Bashar al-Assad, Yazbek fled to Paris in 2011. In The Crossing she recounts her trips back into Syria after her escape. “I was not frightened for myself. Not at all,” she said in 2015. “Why should I be so? This was my homeland.”
