Yevgenia Semyonova Ginzburg

(1904 - 1977)

In 1935, Russian author Yevgenia Semyonova Ginzburg was publicly reprimanded for “insufficient vigilance” against an accused Trotskyite colleague. Two years later she was expelled from the Communist Party; eight days after that she received a phone call from an NKVD officer inquiring “How are you fixed for time today?” She was arrested within hours.
