Andrew Grove

(1936 - 2016)

Born András István Gróf in Budapest, Andrew Grove fled Hungary after the Soviet Union suppressed the country’s 1956 revolution. He began working at Fairchild Semiconductor in then-nascent Silicon Valley in the 1960s; when two Fairchild employees left to found Intel—which would soon produce the first microprocessor, helping spur the computer revolution—he became one of the company’s first employees.
