Jessica Lynch

Born in Palestine, West Virginia, Jessica Lynch is a former U.S. Army soldier who served in the invasion of Iraq. In March 2003 Iraqi soldiers ambushed Lynch’s team near Nasiriya and took her to the local hospital; nine other soldiers were killed. She became the first American prisoner of war rescued since World War II after an April 2003 mission.
