A.J. Liebling

(1904 - 1963)

During the 1940s and early 1950s, A.J. Liebling wrote “The Wayward Press” column for The New Yorker, attacking hack journalists and editors who could not write. About the latter, he once stated, “It is as if, in football, only bad players were allowed to become coaches."
