Liezi

(c. 450 BC - c. 375 BC)

One of three philosophers who developed the primary tenets of Daoism, Liezi claimed he lived unknown for forty years in a game preserve before he was driven by famine to move to Wei. He also claimed his spiritual advancement was such that he had the ability to “ride the wind” for fifteen days at a time. “In fact,” wrote the philosopher, “I knew not whether the wind was riding on me or I on the wind.”
