Richard Morton

(1637 - 1798)

Richard Morton had to leave his vicarage in Staffordshire when he was unable to give his “unfeigned consent and assent” to everything in William Laud’s Book of Common Prayer. Morton is thought to have then traveled to the Netherlands; William of Orange later sponsored his medical degree from Oxford University. Morton became celebrated for his work on tuberculosis.
