Haruki Murakami

Haruki Murakami was inspired to write his first novel when he saw an American hit a double during a Japanese baseball game. He worked on his first novel, Hear the Wind Sing, for several months, sent it to a literary contest, and took first place. His further efforts have been rewarded with the Franz Kafka Prize and the Jerusalem Prize.
