Edward Said

(1935 - 2003)

Edward Said was born in Jerusalem and came to the U.S. in 1951. In his 1978 book Orientalism, Said contended that “the relationship between Occident and Orient is a relationship of power, of domination, of varying degrees of a complex hegemony.”
