Laurence Sterne

(1713 - 1768)

Laurence Sterne, the Irish-born author of the experimental novel Tristram Shandy, died three weeks after the second volume of A Sentimental Journey was published. Before dying, he said, “Now it is come.” His body was stolen by grave robbers and used in an anatomy lecture at Cambridge before it was recognized and returned to the ground.
